Joyce C. Spear

          Joyce Craine Spear, 86, Glasgow, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024 at the NHC Healthcare Center.  A native of Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Ray Craine and Gladys Esters Craine.

          Joyce was a 1956 graduate of Hiseville High School, after which she began working in the retail business.  She worked from the age of 16 at various groceries in the Glasgow area and then became secretary at Kettle Elementary School.  She then moved with her husband to Glasgow where she became a food service worker at Happy Valley Elementary School from which she retired.  She was a longtime member of the Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

          Survivors include two children: Vickie Spear of Madison, Alabama, and Kevin Spear and wife Patti of Louisville; two grandchildren: Daniel Eade and his wife Elizabeth, and Catherine Eade; two step-great-grandchildren: Chloe and Piper; one sister, Opal Alexander and husband Glenn of Glasgow; one aunt, Virginia Middleton of Cave City; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

          In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Dale Spear and an infant sister Cornelius Craine.

          Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.  Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Spears Cemetery in Cumberland County.  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue Thursday morning at the funeral home.
