Les Neumeister

Leslie L. “Les” Neumeister, age 91, of Tampa, Florida died June 7, 2023.  A native of Glasgow, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Leroy Neumeister and Mary Elizabeth Redford Neumeister.  Les was a graduate of Duke University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa. He served two years stationed in Japan as a communications officer in the United States Air Force, with ten years thereafter in the Air Force Reserve. He was discharged with the rank of Captain.

He worked in the field of data processing/information management for thirty years, six with IBM and twenty-four with various GTE (now Verizon) companies. Moving to Tampa in 1968 from Los Angeles, California, Les was employee number six with the newly formed GTE Data Services. He retired from GTE Service Corporation in 1986.  He was a member of Forest Hills Presbyterian Church, where he served several years as an elder.

After thirty-seven years of marriage, his first wife, Virginia Southgate Neumeister, passed away in 1995. He remarried in 1998, and his second wife, Charmaine Kerr Neumeister, passed away in 2012. He had been a resident of Angels Senior Living at the Lodges at Idlewild since 2021.

He is survived by one son, Scott of Tampa; a granddaughter, Catherine Neumeister of Tampa; a stepdaughter, Marcia Kerr of Atlanta, Georgia; a stepson, Robert Kerr (Holly) of Miramar, Florida; two step grandsons, Alec Kerr (Janeah) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Andy Kerr of Washington, DC; and one step great-grandson, Fenn Kerr, of Washington, DC.

A Graveside Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 23 at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
