Danny Belcher

October 27, 1950          ~          May 4, 2023

Danny Wayne Belcher, 72, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Baptist Health Deaconess Hospital in Madisonville.

Danny was born on Friday, October 27, 1950, on family farmland in Temple Hill, Kentucky. As a proud member of the Temple Hill Bulldogs Class of 1968, he remained in close contact with his friends and classmates — often to arrange charitable projects — until his passing. Danny was a proud alum of Western Kentucky University and began a long career in elder care soon after graduating as a Hilltopper. For more than 40 years, he served as the administrator at NHC Healthcare (formerly Kentucky Rest Haven) in Madisonville, where he touched the lives of thousands of families in the Hopkins County area and beyond. Caring for patients and their family members, as well as, investing in his employees was Mr. Belcher’s calling and mission field. Among those whom his life impacted, he leaves behind fond memories of his gentle spirit and secret generosity.

Mr. Belcher was a man of strong faith and believed in the death, burial, resurrection, and witnessed resurrection of Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 15: 1-8). Until his health no longer allowed, Danny faithfully attended Sunday worship services and Wednesday evening Bible studies. He loved listening to hymns sung in a cappella style. Some of his favorite hymns included: Send the Light, Sing to Me of Heaven, Praise the Lord (Ye Heavens Adore Him), A Beautiful Life, and Sing And Be Happy.

Mr. Belcher was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Edna Mae (Matthews) Belcher; one brother, Guy William Belcher; four sisters, Rosa Leigh Belcher, Carolyn (Kenneth) Mussnug, Shirley (Elroy) Walkup, and Laura (Roy) Woodcock; and one nephew, Todd Steele.

He is survived by his only son, Andy (Amy) Belcher of Madisonville and their children Drew and Joy. Although Danny’s awareness and memory were compromised toward the end of his life, one special person never faded from his mind — his only grandson, Drew. Mr. Belcher absolutely loved to brag about Drew.

Survivors also include one brother and his wife, Doug (Frenchie) Belcher of Temple Hill, KY; three sisters and their husbands, Mary Anne (Stephen) Spaeth of Canyon Lake, CA, Nancy (Donald) Steele of Bradenton, FL, and Edith (Bob) Bell of Temple Hill, KY; as well as, 11 nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Poplar Log Cemetery in Freedom, Kentucky (Barren County). Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery until time for services. Mr. Belcher loved photography; in particular, taking pictures of birds. Those wishing to honor his life are invited to hang a bird feeder near a window of their home and remember “Mr. B”. Hatcher Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow, Kentucky was entrusted with care.
