Fanny Jane Word Smith, 86, Glasgow, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021, peacefully after a brief illness. Born in Summer Shade, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Kathryn Garmon Word.

Fanny was saved at an early age and attended both Methodist and Baptist churches. She was a loving wife and devoted mother whose mission was to provide a loving home to her husband and daughters. She loved taking trips and had visited many states with her husband and family. She also had a passion for her Scottie dogs.

Survivors include her husband Richard “Dick” Smith; four daughters: Debbie Dean and husband Joe, Terry Davis and husband Rickey, Stacy Wiley and husband Steven, and April Payne and her husband Barry; six grandchildren: Trey Dean, Justin Davis (Whitley), Calvin Wiley, Millie Wiley Westbrook (Landon), Cole and Cade Payne; one great-granddaughter, Emma Jane; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Mae Smith and one sister, Sylvia Welch.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Summer Shade Cemetery. There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to your favorite charity.
