James Alvis Melton

James Alvis Melton, 79, Glasgow, died Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at his son’s residence in Chipley, Florida. The Cumberland County native was the son of the late Charlie and Vinnie Blakley Melton. He was a retired farmer and plumber, having worked for Furlong Farms, and was a member of the Old Zion Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Joyce Coulter Melton, on January 3, 2020.

Survivors include four children: Melinda Mayhew and husband John of Glasgow, Susan Clark of Edmonton, Anthony Melton and wife Samantha of Bon Ayr, and Danny Melton and wife Flo of Florida; one sister, Jennie Cissell and her husband of Louisville; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Union #1 Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 am Saturday at the funeral home.

Due to health concerns caused by Covid-19, the number of attendees at any given time will be limited, social distancing is required, and face coverings are recommended.
