This amazing ,strong, beautiful woman meant more to me than words can express. She helped me through the darkest times I have faced and she never let me make excuses for myself….and I will miss her dearly. Thinking of you, John Carvel….

  2. Sherri Myers says:

Today, we lost one of the most outstanding and beloved teachers the city of Glasgow has ever known. Today, as people find out, they will reflect about their encounters with such a special woman. As I reflect on my own relationship with her, I realize that she was one of the biggest influences I had to persevere through my own bad decisions and to pursue the NOBLE PROFESSION of teaching. I thank God for placing her in my life (or me in hers).
I remember riding with her in the afternoons to pick up John Carvel and his beloved “Bunny-B (if that’s how you spell it ?)” and then to her house until Mom could pick me up. Bonnie and I had SO many wonderful conversations. Her charm, outstanding character, and her amazing intellect always mesmerized me. To know her was to love her. Seeing what a wonderful wife and mother she was in addition to her love for teaching and learning, I wanted to be just like her!
For the longest time, I thought she was my aunt. Then, Mom told me she was my “second cousin” so I proceeded to ask Bonnie about it. Bonnie explained that she was ACTUALLY my 1st cousin once removed (by marriage). I know many in our family will laugh. 😉 No one else at the time cared to understand how a family line worked (they just knew we were “kin”), but I wanted to understand so I asked Bonnie how she figured that out and she taught me… so if anyone in the family wants to know how exactly you are related, I had a great teacher so I can help you out with that. LOL
In high school, my classmates were always telling me how lucky I was to be related to her. I wouldn’t call it lucky— I would say richly blessed!

For John Carvel, I have no real words of comfort. Nothing I or anyone else says will stop your grief. But I do know that the God of all comfort wants to meet you in these trying days and will lead you through and bring you comfort where words will fail. Though I have suffered the loss of many close loved ones in my life, I have not yet lost a parent. Tim has, and Doug was like another father, but I know it still isn’t the same… The day will come when I will be the one needing the comfort of those who have been there. If there is anything I can do for you or your beautiful bride, please don’t hesitate to ask.

    2 Corinthians 1:3-5
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.”

John Carvel, Ashley, Ruth and Aunt Ann: Our heartfelt sympathies go out to you for the loss of your mother, mother-in-law, daughter, and family member. Although I had talked to Bonnie on different occasions, I had not seen her since this last round of chemo. She fought a good fight and I will always admire her spunk and quick wit.

May God wrap His loving arms around all of you, hold you close to Him and give you comfort now and in the days, weeks and months ahead is our prayer for you.

John Carvel, Ashley, and Ruth , I know your loss is great and words can’t really make
a difference, but I hope it helps a little to know that you all are in the thoughts of so many…
No one but you can know your feelings as ry ou go through this experience, so grieve in the
way that is most natural to all of you.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you

    Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted

  5. Cindy Jessie-Martin says:

I had the priviledge of being one of Ms. Norman’s psychology students in high school. I loved the class and some of the discussions we would get into… she made it so interesting as well as entertaining (I still have some of the packets she gave us)! She was such a wonderful teacher and person, and I enjoyed the times I spoke with her, even after graduating. I know she will be extremely missed, and I pray that your memories will comfort you during this time. May God bless each of you!! (GHS Class of ’89)

  11. Vandy Roush Trent says:

    John,
I loved your father and mother. When they were in college, they lived behind us. They used to be our babysitters. When I had my wedding, your mother loaned me her wedding veil to wear. It was a privilege I will never forget. I remember visiting your mother in the hospital and even though she was sick, she was still the same loving Bonnie. You may remember meeting me when your parents came to my parents wedding anniversary in Tennessee. The world has lost a great person, but heaven has gained a precious angel. Remember all the memories they gave you and share them with your children. Vandy

  12. Dave Harris says:

God Bless you Mrs. Norman. I still can see you and Mr. Bitner chatting in between classes. It was a pleasure to have you as a teacher. You had faith in me and my music/radio career back in the day. It was a wonder because I was a goofball slacker. This goofball turned out OK in the end. You woulda been proud. RIP and thank you for your gifts to us all.

    David

  13. Rossie Kingery says:

I consider it a blessing to have known Bonnie. She inspired many and was an exemplary educator. Her wit and way with words inspired smiles and chuckles. I will treasure fond memories of a great lady.

  14. Joseph D. Smith says:

Many students that I went to school with prior to 2006, who misunderstood her, said that she gave them F’s on purpose. That is a complete misrepresentation of her character. She was a very sweet, loving, and caring woman. She was very open-minded, you could talk to her about anything, and she wouldn’t judge you.

To the family, I am sorry for your loss. I actually started to think about her shortly before her death, wondering how she was doing, and maybe contemplating a possible visit, if she was still working at the school. I may never get to see her again, but I’m just glad to know that she was very loved and cared for, and that her legacy will forever live on.

    Thank you Bonnie.

  15. Danny Martin says:

I admired Bonnie in so many ways. She was totally awesome as a SS teacher. Martha and I were in her class. She was such a learned person, so well read and could share her knowledge with those around her. I, I certainly enjoyed her being in the SS class I started. She has been an inspiration to us all. Peace, Bonnie.

    Dear John,

Please accept Sarah and my sincere sympathy. We will always remember your family the many years we owned the Medicine Shoppe. Your mom and dad were very special people to us as well as watching you grow up. We want you to know you will be in our thoughts and prayers. Sorry we were unable to be there to offer our support but we are out of town the month of June.

    sincerely,
