Joe Billy Aspley

                Dr. Joe W. Aspley, Jr. of Lexington, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2007, at the Hospice Unit of St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. Joe was a native of Glasgow, KY and a graduate of Glasgow High School.  He received his B.A. Degree from Transylvania University in Lexington, the Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees from Lexington Theological Seminary.  He also received certificates for advanced studies in the fields of counseling, evangelism and stewardship.  Dr. Aspley was a retired minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and had served churches in Kentucky, Illinois and Ohio.  He has written three books and materials that were published in various denominational magazines, local newspapers and university publications.  He was a fifty-year member of the Masonic Lodge. 

          Survivors include his wife, Jean Fletcher Aspley; his daughter, Paula J. Aspley of Lexington; his granddaughters, Bethany Jean Berryman of Winchester, KY and Kristina Jo Berryman of Lexington; his step-mother, Ruth Geralds Aspley of Ormond Beach, FL; his sister, Jennie Lou Nunn Penn of Frankfort; his brothers, Donald Bruce Aspley of Greenville, TN, and Steven Roberts Nunn of Glasgow. 

          He was preceded in death by his mother, Beulah Cornelius Aspley Nunn; his father, Joe W. Aspley, Sr.; and a sister, Mary Susan Aspley Krieger. 

          Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 26, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.  Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.
