To the family of Bruce Layne:
As a former student of Mr. Layne and Austin Tracy School, I have only fond memories and will never forget his “I can” classes. I still remember the time he invited the whole class to his house for a cookout, we had so much fun. He definitely was a teacher that cared. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

    To the Layne family,
Mr. Layne was my geography teacher at ATHS in 1972, and my favorite. He took an interest in me and challenged me like few others had up to that point. I remember he passed out a word search puzzle (I think it had state names in it maybe) and announced that the first two students to find all the answers would be treated to all they could eat at the Burger Queen in Glasgow. Well, I was the third one finished but for some reason he changed his own rules and included me. He took us all home after the prize meal too – back in the day when parents didn’t have to sign any permission papers. He made me a better student which served me well in later years of my education and life in general. My family moved to Indianapolis the next year but he and I kept in touch till I got out of high school. I hadn’t corresponded with him in many years, but still today when I think of the best teachers I ever had – he is among my top 3, and I credit him for changing me from a mediocre student into a hard-working one who finished at the top of my class. I’m sure my story could be multiplied many times over because of all the lives he touched during his teaching career. Our world would be a lot different – much better – if we had more teachers, more people period, like Bruce Layne. May God bless his memory and grant comfort and strength to his loved ones.

Mr. Layne was my teacher at A.T., he was our teacher when we were 14 yrs old and our classmates, Greg Eaton and Goldia Williams, had their car accident. For days, class was praying, crying and talking with Mr. Layne, he allowed us to grieve, and to be kids. I have carried so many wonderful memories of those days with me, as the AT class of 1976, are now in our fiftys. I am sure that he has met up with both Greg and Goldia, along with our heavenly father . God bless you, his family at this time and always.
