John Orland Robertson

John Orland Robertson, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, in Glasgow, Kentucky. He was born May 15, 1946, in Flint, Mich.

Beloved husband of Michelle (Champ) Robertson for 50 years; loving Daddy of Katrina Robertson and Christina Robertson-Theis (David); doting Poppa of Victoria (Zach) and Natalie Richer, as well as Carmen and Alexander Rowland. John peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by family. He is also survived by three sisters, Rhoda Neeley (Don), Rebecca King (Charlie) and Ellen Brayton (Chuck).

John was an Eagle Scout and a 1964 graduate of Mount Morris (Mi.) He served two years in the United States Army, which included an overseas assignment in Germany. He was a lover of music and a French horn player. John was also a drill writer for marching bands, drum and bugle corps and winter guards.

John worked at AC Spark Plug and retired from the GM Corvette Assembly Plant, as an active union member of the United Auto Workers. As hobbies throughout life, he enjoyed gardening and making improvements to his homes.

Some of his proudest life achievements included being a founding members of the Great Lakes Judging Association and co-founding Providence Winter Guard and Youth Encouragement Systems. John also founded the Michigan Winter Guard Circuit. While in Michigan, he also organized and directed haunted house fundraisers for MDA. After moving to Kentucky, he served as a volunteer and board member for the Glasgow Highland Games.

Despite his sometimes prickly personality and Scottish stubbornness, his loving heart and generous spirit leave behind a wide circle of family and friends, who will remember him with affection.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests for donations to be made to the scholarship fund of the Michigan Winter Guard Circuit, which can be contacted through its website, www.mcgc.net.

Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will take place in Novi, Michigan in October.
