Joe Cordell “J.C.” Grider, 87, Glasgow, died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at the NHC Health Care Center.  A native of Monroe County, he was a son of the late Wade and Gertrude Hoffman Grider.  He was an army veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Purple Heart.  He was a retired salesman and a member of the South Green Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Hope Grider; two daughters, Katheryn “Kathy” Shive and Anita May and her husband, James; two step-sons, Marty Hope and wife, Lisa, and Keith Hope all of Glasgow; five grandchildren, Jim Shive of Louisville, Joey Shive (April), Leticia Reed and Nadia May all of Glasgow, Landon Borders (Sarah) of Lexington; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Hope and Jonathan Hope; 4 great-grandchildren, Zackary, Chase, Cole and Collin; one brother, Otha Grider of Mt. Hermon; two sisters, Eddie Bunch and Juanita Bybee both of Glasgow; a host of special nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Melba Bass Grider.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.  Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV.  Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Alternate expressions of sympathy may be given to one of his favorite charities, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or T. J. Samson Hospice.
