Winston Collins Nunn was born in Glasgow on July 10, 1926 to Walter E. “Doc” Nunn and Marguerite Collins Nunn, and died May 27, 2017. He grew up on Cleveland Avenue and attended Glasgow Schools, playing baseball, basketball and football. After high school, he was proud to serve his country as a U.S. Marine in World War II. Completing his high school credits after the war, he then attended University of Louisville on a football scholarship and played on the 1947 undefeated team. The next year, he returned home, married and started working as a salesman in the family business – Nunn Auto Supply. Winston remained active in sports; bowling, tennis and golf were some of his favorites. He was recently inducted into the Glasgow High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and was so proud to be included. He was active in his church, serving for many years as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder and trustee at First Christian Church. Winston also loved his community and gave back in many ways, serving on the Literacy Council, for several terms as a city councilman and two different stints on the Glasgow Recreation Board. He was an avid photographer all of his life, and chronicled many historic events and everyday scenes of Glasgow life through the years.
Winston is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Elizabeth York Nunn and by three children – Winston York Nunn(Teresa) of Glasgow, Jenny Margaret Parsley(Ricky) of Goodlettsville, TN, Robert Bruce Nunn of Glasgow; and two grandchildren – Jennie Elizabeth Rodgers(Greg) of Ravenswood, WV and MaryHelen York Nunn of Glasgow. He is also survived by brothers- and sisters-in law, J. Buist and Martha Richardson, and Paul S. and Margaret York, and by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyne Sullivan, and two brothers, Walter E. “Mater” Nunn Jr. and Billy Nunn, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Samuel and Sandra York.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home. Services will be at First Christian Church at 11am on Wednesday, May 31 st . Visitation will be from 4pm – 8pm on Tuesday, May 30 th at the funeral home, and on Wednesday at the church from 9am until time for the service. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
