William “Sewell” Matthews
October 2, 1931 ~ September 25, 2003
William “Sewell” Matthews, 71, Louisville, died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at his home. A native of Temple Hill, KY, he farmed until going to work for Ford Motor Co. in 1968. He retired from Ford after 25 years of service at the Kentucky Truck Plant. He was a member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Jewell Matthews, his mother, Cordlene Crow Matthews, and a brother, Arnold Matthews.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Geneva Clotyel Matthews; one son, Willard R. Matthews and his wife, Melinda; one daughter, Nancy M. Shean and her husband, Geoffrey; three grandchildren, William Randall and Harrison Tate Matthews and Eden Alexandra Shean; four brothers, James, Stanley, Lonnie and Rondall Matthews; four sisters, Elsie Shoopman, Reba Ward, Mary Nell Driver and Lera Noble; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2003, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery at Temple Hill. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
