William H. “Bill” Byrd
April 27, 1928 ~ July 16, 2004
William H. “Bill” Byrd, 76, Hiseville, died Friday, July 16, 2004 , at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital . He was a son of the late Jessie Florence Grider and Willard D. Byrd. Mr. Byrd helped establish and develop the Hiseville Fire Department and then served as their first fire chief. He was a deputy jailer for Barren County from 1972-1977, and then served as Chief of Police for the City of Cave City until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Byrd and his wife, Sandy, of Hiseville, and Tim Byrd and his wife, Gina, of Green Valley; three grandchildren, Jonathon Byrd and his wife, Jennifer, of Green Valley, Justin Byrd of Hiseville and Taylor Byrd of Green Valley; one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Byrd; one brother, Robert Byrd of Pascal; one sister, Betty Veluzat of Bowling Green; and special friend, Lillian Ashbrook of Russell Springs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Byrd and one brother, Buster Byrd.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
