Waymon Akins, 72, Glasgow, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at his residence.  A native of Metcalfe County, he was a son of the late Roy and Ora Gibson Akins.  He was a retired truck driver for Dart Container and a member of the Cedar Cliff Baptist Church.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jewell Akins; one daughter, Anita Meek and husband, Joe, of Glasgow; one granddaughter, Amy Cantine and husband, Matt, of White House, TN; one sister, Virginia Russell of Indianapolis; two brothers-in-law, Randell Jewell of Center and Bill Jewell (Ruth Ann) of Hardyville; 6 nieces and 3 nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Akins; his parents-in-law, Herman and Maureen Jewell.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2008, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Bowles Cemetery near Center.  Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society or the T. J. Samson Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center.
