Thelma Beatrice (Crabtree) Peden passed away on September 4, 2025. She was born on November 22, 1931, in Lee County, Kentucky, to the late Charley Crabtree and Elizabeth Howell Crabtree Edgeworth. It was during the Depression when she was six years old that her father passed away and her mother had to find work. She was sent to the Masonic Children’s Home in Louisville, where she lived until she graduated high school. She always joked that she graduated as a salutatorian out of a class of twelve. She received a scholarship to Lindsey Wilson College and it was there she met her future husband, Harlan Charles Peden. They wed June 2, 1951, and were married for 46 years before his passing in 1997. They moved to many places during Harlan’s teaching and coaching career but through it all she remained steadfast. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved and sacrificed for her family. Above all she loved God and her Lord Jesus Christ, and her faith shone through in how she lived and conducted herself. She instilled this faith in her children, and this strong sense of faith has permeated her family. She was a homemaker all her life and worked to make her home a place of comfort, stability, and wisdom where all were welcome. She had a passion for writing and wrote poems and short stories, especially about her childhood. She was an active member of the Coral Hill Church of Christ teaching children’s classes, ladies bible classes, and doing charity work.
She was preceeded in death by three sisters, four brothers and one grandson Nicholas Nally. She is survived by her children Harlan Charles Peden II (Ann), Pamela Herron (Mike), Janice Brown (Rickey), Scott Peden (Amy), and Jason Peden (Joni), grandchildren Harlan Charles Peden III (Lisa), Heather Hutchason (Matt), Mandy Kelley (Mar-D), Shelby Sellers (Bryan), Mason Peden, Genevieve Ezzell, and Maryella Peden along with eleven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, as well as one sister, Ruth Schaefer, and one sister-in-law Helene Peden.
