Ronnie Ellis, a veteran journalist, loving father and grandfather, passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020, in Glasgow, Kentucky. He was 68. After graduating from Western Kentucky University’s School of Journalism and Broadcasting, Ellis went on to become a trusted and respected voice reporting on Kentucky politics. After working for multiple news outlets, including the Henderson Gleaner and Glasgow Daily Times, Ellis became the state government and political correspondent for Community Newspaper Holdings, Inc. Ellis also served as a regular guest on KET’s Comment on Kentucky. Ellis received the College Heights Herald Award for Outstanding Contributions in Journalism (2018) and was recently inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame.
Ellis was preceded in death by his parents Eugene Ellis and Nettie “Ollie” Ellis.
He is survived by his son, John “Jack” Ellis, his daughter, Scottie Ellis and his grandson Ollie Ellis Garcia.
Due to the Coronavirus, the family will hold a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the University of Kentucky’s Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues, School of Journalism and Media, University of Kentucky, Lexington KY 40506-0012. Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow, Kentucky is assisting the family with arrangements.
