Morton James Smith, Jr. 93, of Glasgow, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025 at his residence. Born in Milwaukee, he was the son of the lateMorton James Smith, Sr. and Regina Sieman Smith.
Morton moved to Florida in 1965 and stated a Building Business and was very successful. He bought an orange grove in 1972, he really enjoyed agriculture and raised beef cattle along with oranges until the Christmas Eve Freeze of 1983. He then purchased some carnival rides and went to state fairs during the summer months. He retired by 1994 and enjoyed his farm in Florida until 2007. At 75 he decided to move to Kentucky and bought a farm in Munfordville, Kentucky and later he purchased a farm in Glasgow, Kentucky and lived there until he passed away.
Survivors include his wife: Maureen Annette Kaump Smith; one son Charles Smith; one Daughter Sherry Lynn Smith; two grandchildren: Melissa Kelm and Gabriel Matthews; one brother: Jeff Smith (Ruth); two sisters: Debbie Smith and Diane Smith; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters: Penny Jones and Gerry Beatka.
The family honored Mr. Smith’s wishes to be cremated. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
