Melvin Julius “Jude” Firkin, 88, Glasgow, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Cumberland County, he was a son of the late James Melvin and Lydia Mae Janes Firkin. He was a retired farmer, having also retired as a truck driver for Southern States Cooperative in Glasgow. He was a member of Basil Chapel United Baptist Church and a U. S. Army Veteran of WW II.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Hughes Firkin; two daughters, Pam Franklin and husband Randall of Horse Cave, and Donetta Doyle and husband Tim of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Jennifer Franklin of Bowling Green, Justin Franklin of Glasgow, Joshua Doyle, U.S. Army, Fort Sill, OK, and Kathina Doyle of Glasgow; four great-grandchildren, Mason, Christian, Makenzie and Hunter Doyle; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Firkin and Jack Firkin.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in the Cave City Cemetery. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
