Listen to Obituary

Mary Linda Franklin Martin, age 79, of Glasgow, KY passed away October 12, 2026 at NHC. Linda was the daughter of the late William Kenneth Franklin and the late LaVerne Pedigo Franklin.

While on this earth, Linda lived two very different lives. In her pre-dementia life, Linda was the office manager at Goodman Candy Company and later H.T. Hackney. She attended Glenview Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and she was actively involved in Vacation Bible School when her children were young. She was a member of the choir and often sang solos on Sunday mornings. When her children were in school, she made cookies for school holidays for her children’s classmates and volunteered to chaperone school field trips. She spent as much time as she could with her children and later grandchildren. Her grandchildren all live out of town, but when she knew they were coming for a visit; she made the most of it. She made sure she had cookies, puzzles, games and movies waiting for them.

Linda’s life with dementia told a different tale. She moved to NHC, which her family lovingly called The Resort, to start a new chapter. She no longer remembered that she was a mother and nana. Her family had to remember her life for her. She would smile and laugh with us when we took our trips down memory lane even though she didn’t remember any of it. She became quite the story teller. Her stories made no sense but they were still funny. She would “help” the nurses make their morning rounds. Sometimes she would leave a piece of candy on their cart for them to find. She constantly walked the halls and would smile and say hello to anyone she saw. She would give you a hug if she thought you needed one. It didn’t matter who you were. Sometimes we would see her dancing down the halls to a tune that only she could hear.

Dementia is hard for a family. You grieve the person you knew when dementia robs a person of their memories. Then you grieve again when you lose the person that they became. As hard as it is, we were blessed to have two completely different moms wrapped up in one package. They both loved us in their own way.

Linda is survived by her children: Donna Jones (Tony), Robert Martin (Nicole), and Angela Daniel (Joe). Grandchildren: Olivia Jackson, Jack Martin, Lillie Davis (Justin), Jordyn Martin, Bailee Daugherty, Landen Daugherty, Brooklyn Daugherty, Courtney Jones (Liz), Jennifer Flenorl (Fred), Jessica Shane (Andrew), and a host of great-grandchildren.

Thank You to all of the nurses and staff at NHC. You became family to Linda and her children. Thank you for walking this journey with our mom and with us.
