Mary Elizabeth Jones Berry, 94, succumbed Tuesday morning, May 13, 2025, at Shanti Niketan Hospice Home in Glasgow. A life-long resident of Barren County, she represented the fifth generation of Barren County settlers. She was the only child of Pernie Elizabeth Sowers Jones and William Lawrence Jones, and she was the widow of Eldon Carver Berry.

A member of Glasgow Baptist Church, she served as President of the Sanctuary Choir, President of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, and Director of the Woman’s Missionary Union.

Mary Elizabeth served eight years as a Women Advisory Board Member, President of Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, Board Member for Camp Joy representing the Liberty Association of Baptists, and Director of the Liberty Association Woman’s Missionary Union.

She was the first woman from this area to be elected by the Kentucky Baptist Convention to serve as a Trustee of Georgetown College.

Becoming a member of the Glasgow Musicale in the late 1950’s, Mrs. Berry was President of the organization, an officer of the Kentucky Federation of Music Clubs, a member of The Gideons Auxiliary, Kentucky Angus Association, the American Angus Association, and the Edmund Rogers Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She and her late husband owned and operated the Jones Family farm, “Clover Hill Angus Farm,” which Mary Elizabeth continued to operate after her husband’s death in 1999. They were active in state and national cattle functions. In February 2007 The Progressive Farmer Magazine featured Clover Hill Angus Farm as the Number One Best Place to Live in Rural America.
