Marion Edward Gilkey, 88, Lucas, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at the Glasgow Health & Rehabilitation Center. A native of Jefferson County, he was a son of the late Charles Michael and Essie Duggens Gilkey. He was a retired heat frost and asbestos worker with Local 51 in Louisville. He was a 32 nd degree mason, a member of the Robinson # 221 Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He was a Past Commander of American Legion Post 220; a Honorary Regimental Sergeant Major with the 623 rd Field Artillery; a former board member of the Austin-Tracy Volunteer Fire Department; and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a Corpsman with the United States Navy, a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, and a member of the Berean Baptist Church in Scottsville.

Survivors include three sons: Marion Gilkey, Jr. and his wife Connie of Louisville, Lt. Col (ret.) Michael Gilkey of Greenville, KY, and Patrick Gilkey and his wife Lisa of Louisville; two daughters: Pamela Maze of Mt. Washington and Ramona Hawkins and her husband Jeff of Louisville; one half-brother: Billy Long and his wife Brenda of Shepherdsville; one brother-in-law: Arthur Williams of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Geneva Dixon Gilkey; one son: Danny Ray Gilkey; one grandson: Charles Michael Gilkey; one brother: Leo Gilkey; one sister: Betty Williams.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation begins at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic service will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Austin-Tracy Volunteer Fire Department, P. O. Box 60, Austin, KY 42123.
