June 21, 1921 ~ August 25, 2012
Elizabeth Owen “Libby” Jones, 91, Glasgow, died Saturday, August 25, 2012. Born June 21, 1921 in Harrodsburg, KY, she was the daughter of John Ed Owen and Ruby Redwitz Owen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles C. “Buck” Jones, and her beloved brother Tommy Owen, Nashville, TN.
An honor graduate of Pineville High School and Centre College, she was a retired teacher from Glasgow High School, a job that was a joy to her. First Christian Church was her church home, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Her 22 years as an Air Force wife gave her the opportunity for leadership and guidance with the young wives whose husbands served under her husband—a rare and special opportunity with which she was blessed. Her faith, family, friends, the mountains, the oceans, her students, and her fellow teachers were all very dear to her.
Survivors include her faithful and loving sons: John C. Jones (Barbara) of Clearwater, FL; Thomas N. “Tom” Jones (Mary Bess) of Richmond, KY; Charles A. “Chuck” Jones (Kim) of Charleston, SC; and Curtis L. Jones (Pam) of Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Rogers (Jason), Amanda Jones, Gina Jones (Chad), Whitney Jones, Meredith Jones, Meggan and Andrew Zena; Nell Owen, sister-in-law; Lee Holzemer, niece; and Steve Owen, nephew.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her physician, Dr. Bill Marrs, and the staff at Barren County Health Care Center for their loving care.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church of Glasgow. Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Christian Church. Arrangements entrusted to Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
