Listen to Obituary

Johnny Joe Smith, 60, formerly of Glasgow, Ky passed away unexpectedly on 12/31/2025 at his residence in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was employed at F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company and a dedicated member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, a brotherhood he deeply valued. Johnny Joe was one of the funniest people you could ever meet. He had a quick wit, a smart remark for every situation, and a natural way of making people laugh without even trying. Anyone who met him surely has a funny story to tell. He and the late Jerry Ragle were best friends—the kind of friendship built on loyalty, laughter, and a lifetime of shared experiences. Together, they loved to hunt and tell (or exaggerate) stories afterward—that was their happy place. Their bond was something truly special and meant the world to both of them. Teasing each other was another favorite pastime. However, more than anything, he loved his people. Family meant everything to him, and he showed it by always being there, always having your back, and always keeping things real. Having him in the family was a gift — being able to call him a friend was even more special.

He is survived by his partner and the mother of his children Lyndzey Kaufman , his 3 children that were his greatest joys, Karenna Michele-Ranaye-Delsie Smith, Johnny Joe Smith Jr and Emma Faye Smith. His brothers, John William Smith II, Lee England and Dennis England all of Glasgow, Ky. Sisters, Martha Smith of Tompkinsville, Ky, Delsie Smith and Tammy LaBonte of Indiana; Stepdaughters Stephanie McClure and Daisy Renee Surber both of Indiana.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
