John Leamon “Rink” Jewell, 91, Hiseville, died Monday, February 19, 2007, at his home. He was born in Hart County on August 20, 1915, the son of Charlie Jackson and Lucinda Coffey Jewell. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his children, Carolyn Jean Matthews (Billy), of Glasgow, Elaine Harbison (Stanley), of Randolph, John “Snooter” Jewell, Jr., of Edmonton, and Dennis Jewell, of Hiseville; seven grandchildren, Melissa Russell, Mark Matthews, Melanie Patterson, Cynthia Shive, Clint Harbison, Terry Jewell and Travis Jewell; seven great-grandchildren, Annie Allison, Whitney, Meryn, Grant, Noah and Avery.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by is wife, Mary Kathleen Jewell, three brothers, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 22, 2007, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV, will be in the Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
