John Comer Hagan, 63, of Fountain Run, Kentucky, was called home on July 14. Though his time on earth came to an end, he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and lifelong friendships.
As a longtime owner-operator truck driver, he spent countless hours on the open road, where fellow drivers knew him as “Top Gun.” Whether he was behind the wheel of a semi, dump truck or operating heavy equipment, John was in his element. He had a natural talent for running any piece of equipment and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
Affectionately known as “Higgins” to many, John had a lifelong love for truck and tractor pulling and was a devoted Dale Earnhardt fan. He truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life—a burnt honey bun, listening to Bob Seger, and having breakfast with friends at Flappers.
To his grandchildren, John was simply “Pappy,” a title he wore with pride. He was also a longtime member of Fountain Run Baptist Church.
John is survived by his wife, Tonya Hagan; his daughters, MaKeala-Jay Hagan (Sebastian), Gavin Hodges (Brandon), and Autumn Rhodes (Jeff); his stepmother, Katherine Hagan; his brother, James Hagan (Robin); his nephews, Jacob and Noah Hagan; several cousins; his precious grandchildren, Zennith, Emrie, Henley, Everson, and Valen; and the many cherished friends who were like family to him.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Hugh Hagan; his mother, Wanda Hagan; his uncles, Richard Hagan and Roger Comer; and his grandparents, John J and Huey Pearl Hagan, and Lolus and Mattie Comer. John’s memory will live on through the many friendships he built, the family he loved, and the countless stories that will be shared for years to come. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt or Kosair for Kids.
