John Douglas Simmons, 81, Glasgow, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at NHC in Glasgow. A native of Cadiz, he was the son of the late Clyde Clayton and Mattaleen Lane Simmons. He was a retired postal clerk with the Glasgow Post Office after 41 years of service. A former member of Glasgow Scottie Band and Boy Scout Troop 214, he was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church and Glasgow Lions Club and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. After his retirement, John pursued one of his hobbies, photography, by being a photographer for the Barren County Progress for a number of years. He also was an avid fan and participant of muzzle loader activities and pioneer re-enactments.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Simmons; two cousins, Sandra Taylor and husband, Joe Donald, of Glasgow, and James H. Nelson and wife, Diane, of South Carolina; one nephew, Walter Reed Smith and wife, Beverly, of Glasgow; three nieces, Cherry K. Smith of Indianapolis, Leisa Hutchison and husband, David, of Bowling Green, and Karen Witty and husband, James, of Glasgow; 1 great niece; 6 great-nephews and several other cousins.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Burial with military honors provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.
