Janice VanZant Harper Alt, 84, of Marrowbone and formerly of Glasgow, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. A native of Metcalfe County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Stanley and Francis Monday VanZant.
Janice was “Moma”, “Granny”, and “Nanny Bell”. She loved to cook; go to horse shows, beauty pageants, dance recitals, and antique shops. She was a nurse; a Queen Red Hatter; and a member of VFW & ladies auxiliary. She “witched” several oil, gas, and water wells. She was a lover of animals; westerns; eating ice cream; and listening to Summer Shade Pickers. She also loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Jan Hunt (Clay); two sons: Buddy Harper (Brandy), and Todd Harper; nine grandchildren: Brandon Harper, Meghann McIntyre, Heather Perry (Logan), Cole McIntyre, Zack Harper (Brittany), Hannah Harper, Reece Harper, Taylor Ashford, and Jessica Hunt; two sisters-in-law: Debbie Harper and Betty Cooksey; one brother-in-law, Kenny Watson; special friends: Sue Garrett Schmidt and Jeff Hunt; several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Alt; the father of her children, Paul Harvey Harper; one son, Jerry Paul Harper; one sister, Joann Gibson; two sisters-in-law: Lizzie Bell White and Norma Watson; four brothers-in-law: Jessie Harper, James White, Larry Cooksey, and Garfield Gibson.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. After the funeral, friends and family will be invited to the Glasgow VFW to share a meal.
