James Austin Sneed, 93, went to his heavenly home March 6, 2015. Austin was born June 17, 1921 in Gradyville, Kentucky. He was the 7 th of 9 children born to the late James William “Bud” and Ida Alice (Baker) Sneed.

On December 20, 1945, he married Mavis Maylene Fields; of this union was born two daughters, Glenda Sue and Tammy Annette.

Austin was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran. He loved to sing and play his guitar and also farmed for many years. He was a loving husband, daddy, and papa, and also loved going to church very much.

June 2, 1955 down by a spring on his farm in Adair County he was saved. After bring baptized he joined Sparksville Baptist Church and in later years he moved his membership to Rolling Hills United Baptist Church in Glasgow where he remained a faithful member until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Mavis Maylene; Daughters, Sue Wood and husband Eugene, and Tammy Mosby and husband Tim all of Glasgow; four grandchildren: Marsha Gentry and husband Michael of Cave City; Sherry Maxwell and husband Eugene of Oklahoma; Carissa Uptegraff of Glasgow and Shane Wood of Louisville; five great-grandchildren: Emily and Andrew Gentry, Peyton and Ben Maxwell, and Hunter Uptegraff; one sister: Argerine Kemp of Campbellsville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Austin was preceded in death by his parents and 7 sisters: Mary Iva Coomer, Lillie May Coomer, Nina Raye Bingham, Della Frances Tarter, Lula Elizabeth Sneed, Sarah Catherine Montgomery, and Christine Tweedy.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Rolling Hills Baptist Church with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home and after 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to T. J. Samson Hospice.
