J. W. Gassaway, 84, Glasgow, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. A native of Metcalfe County, he was the son of the late Roy Edward Gassaway and Nellie Frances Whitlow Gassaway.

J. W. was a retired employee of FRECC where he had worked as a lineman and retired as supervisor of the right-of-way crews. He was a sportsman who loved golf, fishing, hunting, and horseback riding.

Survivors include his son Greg Gassaway and his wife Kristie; one grandson, Ben Gassaway; one step-grandson, Garet Payne (Kelby); two step-great-grandchildren: Everly and Elley Payne; one brother, Wallace Gassaway (Jane Ann); two sisters: Carolyn Fields (Raymond) and Laverne Watson; special friend and caregiver, Shirley Emmitt; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene Gassaway and Bobby Gassaway; and by two sisters: Vivian Bryant and Barbara Lois Glass.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with cremation following. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
