Oris “Gene” Eugene Basil, 84, of Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the NHC health care center. He was a son of the late Oris Stanford Basil and Nellie Walden Basil. He was a US Army veteran.
He is survived by his children: Sherry Combs (Bobby), Rita Shaw, Jeffery Basil, Sherry Ballard, Tina Shugart (Jimmy), Tracy Matthews (Luke), Devona Smith (David), Eric Bullington (Linda), Jason Simmons (Rekita), Crystal Simmons, Shyanna Bullington; five grandchildren: Chris Combs, Kara Basil, Casey Basil, Katie Reece and Tiffany Shaw; several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife: Fannie Rosetta Kerney Basil; one grandson: Teddy Ray Shaw; four brothers: Leroy Basil, Troy Basil, Ray Basil and James Basil; four sisters: Bertha Matthews, Margie Houchens, Virginia Bunell and Deloris Sexton.
Funeral will be 1:00 pm Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm Sunday and after 9:00 am Monday until time for services.
