After losing her husband, Reverend Kenneth Grizzle, just four months ago, Mary Emogene Grizzle, 84, of Glasgow joined her husband in Heaven early Saturday morning, June9, 2012.
Emogene lived her entire life in Barren County, born on September 1, 1927 the youngest of nine children to Henry Clay and Katie Frances Garrett. Of her eight siblings, she is survived only by James Garrett (Opal), also of Glasgow.
Emogene lived a spiritual life of service and giving. She was known for her wonderful meals, her love of flower and vegetable gardening, and her service to the Lord. Emogene understood the power of prayer and the solace of a hug. Perhaps most of all, she walked the walk in her role as a Christian woman, wife, and mother.
Emogene was a member of Grider Memorial Baptist church for over 60 years, where her husband of 64 years served as pastor. She, alongside Kenneth, led a life of service to their church family and the community. Members of her church recollect her beautiful voice in the choir and how she taught others through her own humble but steadfast example.
Visitation will be held at the Hatcher and Sadler Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday and at Grider Memorial Baptist Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral, also at Grider Memorial, will begin at 1 p.m. with burial in nearby Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
Emogene is also survived by three children, Dianna Perkins (Melvin) of Horse Cave, Sandy Adams (Bob) of Bowing Green, and Phillip Grizzle of Glasgow; eight grandchildren, Shawn Perkins (Debbie) of Glasgow, Gina Huff (Shawn) of Scottsville, Chad Whittington (Melinda) of Columbus, Ohio, Justin Whittington of Bowling Green, Nicole Whittington of Charlotte, North Carolina, Tara Lawson (Jason) of Campbellsville, Clint Whittington of Bowling Green, Matt Grizzle of Glasgow, and Andy Adams of Bowing Green; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to all those who have helped the family through service and in prayer, including Vickie Davis, who served as a special caregiver throughout Emogene’s illness.
