Charles Wayne Simmons

Charles Wayne Simmons, 90, of Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, in Glasgow.

Charles Wayne was born February 10, 1936, in the Temple Hill community of Kentucky, to the late Charles Frank Simmons and Mary Bittie Simmons. He was a longtime devoted member of Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he and his wife, Charlotte, became members on June 19, 1963.

Charles Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. To his family, he was simply known as “Grandaddy.” He was a dedicated employee of Atmos Energy, formerly Western Kentucky Gas, until his retirement, and he was also a decorated Army veteran. Charles Wayne will always be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and love for his family and friends.

Throughout his life, Charles Wayne found great joy in the outdoors, maintaining his beautiful yard and garden, living a Christian life of unwavering faith, and serving the Lord and his church. Serving for many years as an elected elder was a particular honor to him. He also enjoyed many years of playing golf, softball, and bowling in leagues with friends and fellow church members.

Above all else, Charles Wayne loved his family. He cherished family gatherings and was especially elated when he recently became a great-grandfather. He was always ready to share a laugh, a story, or a helping hand. And he proudly served as the self-appointed taste tester for his wife’s chocolate pies.

Charles Wayne is survived by his wife, Charlotte (Glass) Simmons; two daughters, Laura Simmons Jones (Jeff) and Lynn Simmons Sutton (Doug); five grandchildren, Hannah Jones (Randy Lacey), Scott Jones, Erin Jones, Bailey Sutton (Kellie), and Blake Sutton; two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Sophie Sutton; one brother, Lanny Simmons (Janice); and two sisters, Carole K Riddle (David) and Diane Allen (Bob). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Charles Wayne will remember his love, infectious laughter, mischievous spirit, and impressive ability to fix or build just about anything. They will remember the stories and memories he so easily shared with others and, most of all, the way he made people feel welcome and loved.

He will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of love, faith, laughter, and service will continue in the lives of all those blessed to have known him.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home. Visitation on Wednesday will begin at 9:00 a.m. (CDT), with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) Burial will follow at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.

Charles Wayne will always be deeply loved and greatly missed by all who knew him. As the words that so beautifully embody the life he lived remind us: “Of all the precious moments God unfolds in everyday, the best of all are shared with those we meet along the way.” That sentiment captures the indelible mark Charles Wayne left on those around him and the reminders of him that will live on in moments both large and small.
