Carole Sewell Smith

Carole Sewell Smith, 75, Temple Hill, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the T J Samson Community Hospital. A native of Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Dean Brown Sewell.

Carole was a retired customer service representative at R R Donnelley & Sons and was the innkeeper at Four Seasons Inn until 2017.

Survivors include her husband Charles David Smith; three children: Brent Smith (Julie), Jenny Groce (Chad), and Lori Poynter (Nick); nine grandchildren: Emma Kate Smith, Lane Smith, Adysen Groce, Taye Poynter (Chloe), Neleigh Poynter, Nash Poynter, Greenlee Poynter, Nola Poynter, and Finn Poynter; one great-grandchild due in July, 2026, Lucy Nix Poynter; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers: Leon Sewell and Larry Sewell.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and continue Tuesday morning at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the American Cancer Society, Poplar Log Cemetery, or your favorite charity.
