William L. “Bill” McFarland, 82, Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, February 02, 2016, at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, KY. He died on what would have been his 60 th wedding anniversary with his wife Lois Hope Eubank McFarland; she preceded him in death on October 30, 2012. The Barren County native was a son of the late O. H. and Lela Nichols McFarland. He was a graduate of Glasgow High School, where he was an All-State Football player, and later played for the University of Kentucky. He was a United States Army veteran, stationed in Italy, and a retired mechanic with the Lyons Company in Glasgow. He was a long-time member of the Refuge Church of Christ where he also served as an Elder, song leader, and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include two children: Fern Wells and her husband Dan of Lexington, and Neal McFarland and his wife Pam of Versailles; two grandchildren: William Drexel Wells and Olivia Hope Wells; two sisters: Ruth Eubank of Glasgow and Alice Little of Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Peyton McFarland and Lewis McFarland; and three sisters: Frances Hayden, Helen Bryant, and Alta Eubank.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and continue Friday morning at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Potter’s Children’s Home in Bowling Green—envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
