Herbert Bay Mattingly, Jr., age 66 of Glasgow passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 at TJ Samson Hospital, Glasgow, Kentucky, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. He was born December 5, 1950 in Lebanon, Kentucky, and was the oldest child of Jane A. and Col. Herbert B. Mattingly, who preceded him in death.

Herb attended Washington County High School and was a 1968 graduate of Ft. Knox High School where he lettered in tennis. He received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Eastern Kentucky University in 1972 and began service with the U.S. Army shortly afterward, serving during the Vietnam War Era. Herb served active duty primarily at Aberdeen Proving Ground (Edgewood Arsenal) in Maryland, and also at Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Colorado and Stanley R. Mickelson Safeguard Complex in North Dakota. After military service, Herb joined Environmental Consultants, Inc. in Clarksville, Indiana as an analytical chemist. He retired after 28 years of work there. Herb was a fan of major league baseball beginning at an early age. He was an avid scale model hobbyist, and was active in several collector car clubs.

Herb is survived by siblings Edward A. Mattingly of Houston, Texas, Ann M. Bertrand and Mary M. Elliott (Tommy), both of Glasgow, Kentucky, Sue M. Smith (Jamie) of Columbia, Kentucky, and Charles C. Mattingly (Beth) of Madison, Alabama. Surviving nieces and nephews are Teresa Bertrand of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Laura Johnson (John) of Glasgow, Kentucky, Robert Bertrand of Louisville, Kentucky as well as Brookes, Sabel, Emmy and Brittain Mattingly, all of Madison, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at Hatcher and Saddler Funeral Home, Glasgow, on Monday, June 26 from 4-8 p.m. (Central Time). Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Helen’s Catholic Church in Glasgow on Tuesday June 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. (Central Time). Interment will follow afterward at St. Augustine Cemetery in Lebanon, Kentucky.
