Dorothy Victoria Terry Shearer, 91, died on March 28, 2017. She was born on June 29, 1925 in Barren County, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will Terry, Jr. and Grace Anderson Terry.

Mrs. Shearer is survived by her husband of seventy years, Marcus Lisle Shearer and their
three children, Michael (Anita) Shearer, Hiseville, KY; Judy (David) Blakeman, Lexington,
KY; and Linda (Tom) Speed, Louisville, KY. She is also survived by five grandchildren,
Savannah Speed, New Albany, IN; Jeanne Shearer, Durham, NC; Marc Speed, Knoxville, TN;
Michael Blakeman, Lexington, KY; and Will Blakeman, Lexington, KY. Her brother, William
A. Terry, Denmark, SC also survives.

She was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church for over fifty years, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and an active member of Women’s Missionary Union (W.M.U.). At the time of her death she was a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church.

Mrs. Shearer was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College. She retired after twenty-seven years of service to the Jefferson County Public Schools, and following retirement, devoted her time to volunteer efforts, including Recording for the Blind, Kentucky Baptist Disaster Relief, and the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

After retiring, Marc and Vic traveled extensively, visiting all fifty states, eleven Canadian provinces, and over forty foreign countries on five continents.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm EDT at Highlands Funeral Home, Louisville, KY on Thursday, March 30, 2017. Funeral services will be at Saint Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave., Louisville, at 10:30 am EDT on Friday, March 31. There will be a graveside service at the Hiseville Cemetery in Hiseville, Barren Co., KY at 3:00 pm CDT the same day (gathering at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow, KY, 2:15 pm CDT).

Pallbearers will be Marc Speed, Michael Blakeman, Will Blakeman, David Blakeman, Tom Speed, Eddie Shearer, David Powell, and Brian Bennett.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, American Printing House for the Blind (Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic), Kentucky Wesleyan College, or St. Matthews Baptist Church.
