Billy Matthews

June 12, 1946     ~     August 27, 2016

William Beam “Billy” Matthews, 70, Glasgow, died Saturday, August 27, 2016, at his residence. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Benjamin Franklin “B. He later became employed at R. R. Donnelley’s from which he retired after 32 years of service. After his retirement, he took great interest in construction and restoration projects.

Billy was extremely active with family and community. He served as a member of the Hiseville City Council, member and a past-president of the Hiseville PTA, and a coach of Little League Sports. He loved dove hunting and any other sports in which his children, grandchildren, or any other family members were involved. He was a long time member of the Hiseville Christian Church where he also served as Elder.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Jewell Matthews; three children: Melissa Russell, husband Mark, and their children Anne Lynnsey and Alison Jean of White House, TN; Mark Matthews, wife Becky, and their children Whitney Wood and husband Ben, and Meryn McKaye of Glasgow; Melanie Moon, husband Casey, and their children Grant Michael, Noah Matthews, and Avery MaryBess of Glasgow; two great-grandchildren: Wyatt Benjamin Wood and Austen Kate Wood; two sisters: Nancy Richardson of Glasgow and Madonna Young and husband Mike of Etoile; two sisters-in-law: Gail Matthews of Alvaton and Lynda Matthews of Hiseville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: John Allen Matthews and Thomas Depp “Tommy” Matthews; and one brother-in-law: Sam Richardson.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Hiseville Christian Church Building Fund.

One of the great rewards for serving the Lord as a Christian Minister is becoming a part of the lives of folk like Billy and Carolyn and their family, whom we feel are a very real part of our family. We go all the way back to the mid 60’s and it is still delight to recall the fun filled occasions when we were in their home or they in ours and serving with them as part of the Hiseville Christian Church.
Billy was not just a brother in Christ, he was a dear friend, as are you Carolyn. He not only lives on with our Lord in Heaven; he lives in our heart.
