Dorothy Opal Garrett, 89, Glasgow, passed away Friday, June 03, 2016, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. A native of Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late J. A. O’Dell and Lera Mae Cross O’Dell.

Opal was a member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church; a homemaker who loved quilting; and a devoted Mother and friend to those who knew her. Granny, as she was known by many, spent countless hours with her family giving love and support. She worked many years serving lunch to children at Temple Hill, E. B. Terry, and Happy Valley Schools.

Survivors include her husband James H. Garrett; two daughters: Ruby Carver and Gertie Hodges; two step-sons: Wayne Garrett and wife Cindy, and Jimmy Garrett, whose death occurred approximately 6 hours later; 8 grandchildren: Tony Hodges and wife Michelle, Todd Hodges and wife Anne, Billy Carver, Jr. and wife Emily, Anissa Pendleton and husband Michael, Reeca Carver, Kim Lambert and husband Owen, Ashley Wood, and Amy Hammer; 15 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; a special nephew Tommy Walker along with several other nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Ezra Walker; her two sons-in-law, B. R. Carver and Wendell Hodges; a great-grandchild Justin Wilkerson; two brothers: Raymond and Tommy O’Dell; two nieces: Dora Walker and Margret Walker.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
