Walter Gibbons

Walter J. Gibbons, 87, Cave City, died Thursday, February 25, 2016, at his residence. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Hershel and Sarah Elizabeth Sheffield Gibbons. He was a farmer, an active member of the National Farmers Organization, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Military Police.

Survivors include his wife Ruth; five children: Michael Gibbons and his companion Cindy Byrd, Cheryl Renick and husband Phil, Cherry Martin and husband Timmy, Anthony Gibbons and fiancée Beth, and Kimberly Samaras and husband Jordan; two grandchildren: Ryan Renick and his wife Alex, and Kori Renick; one great-grandchild: Durham Renick; one brother: Doug Gibbons and wife Linda; brothers and sisters-in-law: R. B. Stephens, Charlotte Rigdon and husband Jesse, Bessie Lee Gibbons, and Blondell Gibbons; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Lois Bowles Gibbons; four brothers: Louis Gibbons, Arthur Gibbons, Earl Gibbons, and his twin brother Waldo Gibbons; four sisters: Alice Boles, Effie Chase, Alma Chase, and Ruby Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
