Our deepest prayers & thoughts go out to the Sexton family. While I personally did not spend much time with Mae Ola & Johnnie, I can remember all the times they came to Illinois. And every time we would go to Kentucky their house was always a place we would stop. I can remember my grandfather Jake Sexton & my mother & father, Dorothy & Jim Sexton always talking about them. And the stories they would tell.

It is said that as long as there are memories, no one ever is truly gone. And there are lots of memories.

Peace be with you….The (Illinois) Sextons…Tom, Janice, Rachel, Jake & Dorothy.

  2. Ray Sexton, Jr says:

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of the last of a generation of Sexton family. Ola Mae represented so much. The Aunts and Uncles that raised my Dad for the formative years of his life after they lost their oldest sibling in 1939 had all been gone for over a decade prior to her passing this week.

Much like Tom Sexton, my memories of Ola Mae will always be those of a drop-in visit or the Sexton Reunions. My Dad looked upon all of these FINE people as his parents. To me and my sisters they were over a dozen grandparents. Our little family unit went through a divorce in the early 1980s. With that loss of close family ties came the loss of my connection with the Kentucky Sextons and the knowledge of who was passing on.

In 2010 I brought my Dad back to Kentucky after he and I had managed to put aside our anger over the divorce. They were all gone. Except the one. Our visit to the old house where Mae Ola and Johnnie had lived all those years ago saw us almost afraid of what we would find when we knocked on that door. What met us was a still beautiful 90+ yr young Mae Ola….all grins and laughter.

We had a super visit where she told us jokes and shared family news like no one else would be able. It will always be a treasured memory.

Our hearts are with you and we pray you too will be able to find peace in those memories and fond experiences from the past.

Love and peace from here to there…..The Arkansas Sexton clan….Ray Sr and his descendants…..Jr, and family, Renee and family, Dianne and her family.
