James Alton Pierce

James A. Pierce, 75, Glasgow, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at his home after a brief illness. A native of Barren County, he was a son of the late Rev. Kelly Pierce and Dolly Mae Glass Pierce.

James has been a barber for 54 years and was associated with the Isenberg Barber Shop in Glasgow for the past 38 years. He was saved at the Beaver Dam United Southern Baptist Church in 1951. He had a wide array of interests including fishing, gardening, and spending time with his great-grandchildren. He had also been an active participant with the Barren County Cloggers for 20 years; a member of the Park City Ramblers (a square dancing group); and a member of Basil Chapel United Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Rocky Pierce and long-time friend Raymond Warren of Glasgow, and Kevin Pierce and fiancée Shelia Armstrong of Franklin, KY; one grandson: Hunter Pierce and wife Brooke; two great-grandsons: Skiler and Preston Pierce all of Glasgow; one brother: J.D. Pierce (Sheryl) of Brownsville; one sister: Evon Pierce Priddy of Chalybeate; several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol Saltsman Pierce; four brothers: Ecel Pierce, Grover Pierce, Buck Pierce, and Bill Pierce; three sisters: Joyce Pierce Wingfield, Janice Pierce Morgan, and Lavada Pierce.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Neal’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
