Emily Mae Dearing Newberry of Hiseville, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2014. She had been living with her daughter and son-in-law Emily and Terry Atchison in Louisville, Kentucky.

Emily Mae Dearing was born in Rich Pond, Kentucky, on November 20, 1912. She was the daughter of Herman and Ida Smith Dearing of Warren County Kentucky who preceded her in death. Emily was also preceded in death by William McKendree “Maxie” Newberry, her devoted husband of 47 years, and her sister Nettie Dearing Hollan.

She is survived by her daughter Emily Caroline Newberry Atchison (Terry); her grandchildren Jeffrey Antle, Jr. and Emily Possidento (Alec); and her five great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Trevor, and Braden Antle and Olivia and Vincent Possidento, all of Louisville. Emily, who was dearly loved by all, will be greatly missed.

In addition, Mrs. Newberry is also survived by her sister Bettie Dearing Dunn (Harry), Nashville, TN and two sisters-in-law: Carrie Walker Newberry, Hiseville, KY and Nancy Williams Newberry, Russellville, KY. Mrs. Newberry is also survived by the following nephews and nieces and their families: Tom Newberry (Evelyn), Atlanta, GA, Pem Newberry (Debbie), Overland Park, KS, Harriet Hollan Kimbro (Steven), Wilmington, NC, Bob Hollan (Sylvia),Tallahassee, FL, Jane Leslie Newberry (Tom Backer), Seattle, WA, Dale Dunn (Brenda), Nashville, TN, Douglas Dunn (Jennifer), Knoxville, TN, Jim Newberry (Cheryl Ann), Lexington, KY, Melinda Dunn, Nashville, TN, Steve Newberry (Vickie), Hiseville, KY.

Mrs. Newberry is survived also by great nephews and great nieces, including those who are local: Amy Newberry Shipley (Mark), Glasgow, KY, Walker Newberry, Hiseville, KY, Drew and Will Newberry, Lexington, KY, as well as great-great nephews and great-great nieces.

She touched the lives of many young people as a teacher in one room schools and as the one teacher in the business department at the former Hiseville High School in Barren County. She was a member of Hiseville Baptist Church for more than seventy years. For the last seven years she worshipped with her daughter and son-in-law in Louisville at Westport Road Baptist Church. She took great pleasure in her church, home, farm, and school. She loved people.

Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home in Glasgow has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 1 from 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A celebration of her long life will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at the Hiseville Cemetery. Larry Pursiful, Associate Pastor, Westport Road Baptist Church in Louisville, will officiate. For those unable to attend the services, condolences may be expressed at www.hatchersaddler.com.

The family extends its sincerest appreciation for the love, care, and support of her family and friends, Hiseville Baptist Church family, Newberry Farm family, and Hiseville School and community family throughout her rich life. The family also appreciates the care and support offered in Louisville by Tri-County Adult Day Care, Hosparus (Hospice) of Louisville, Westport Road Baptist Church, and neighbors and family friends of all ages.
