Betty M. Akins, Glasgow, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, at her residence after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Born October 30, 1937 in Metcalfe County, she was the daughter of the late Hermon and Maureen Lane Jewell. She was the widow of Waymon Akins who preceded her in death in 2008. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include one daughter, Anita Meek and husband, Joe of Glasgow; one granddaughter, Amy Cantine and husband Matt of White House, TN; two brothers, Randell Jewell of Center and Bill Jewell (Ruth Ann) of Hardyville; 6 nieces; 3 nephews.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Roy and Ora Gibson Akins.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Bowles Cemetery near Center. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
