We count ourselves among those who loved Bruce and we knew he loved us. For myself, I knew Bruce for over 40yrs. though in many ways it seems like yesterday. I am cherishing each one too. I am sad to not be in KY to say a final goodbye but will this weekend when we get home. Bruce was one of those brothers I never had. Our journeys at AT I’ll treasure always. He was the colleague I learned from, the teacher my Stacey loved, and most of all my friend. Bruce, like the ocean waves here, you will go on forever in the lives of so many. I am sure you and Jeff are already laughing and joking as you look down from your new paradise I will see you in your sons and grandson and know of your spirit in your puppy girl.. Sarah, I will be home soon to hug you. Love Janet

You are in our thoughts and prayers, We have known Mr Layne for about 40 years now. He was my sisters favorite teacher, My brothers had him as well and fast forward, My Daughter Melissa had him at Ausrin Tracy. He gave her the attitude that I CAN, and she has neverr forgotten him, Needles to say he was also one of her favorite teachers. To think the input he has instilled in his students is an accolate to his life. On a personal note he was a grerat friend to our family, especially Lauraetta. He always sent cards and asked about her when I am sure he didn’t always feel like it, he sent her some money and yes she still has it, he was thoughtful kind and his smile and sense of humor will always stay in o ur thoughts, It will be hard to say goodbye,, But i know he is smiling and with Mr Foster, heaven is so much better place, May God bless you all in the days to come. We love you all, Annetta, Lauraetta, Charles abd Len Norris, Melissa and Kevin Roach.

We both met Bruce many years ago when he came to Austin-Tracy…. will always remember the smile he always had as so many people have already mentioned, but learning a few years ago that he had made preparation for leaving this world someday was the most important thing that we could know about him. That preparation took him to a better place where there will be no more pain and suffering. Even tho you may be hurting, there is comfort in knowing that he is rejoicing……. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  20. Barry Harlow says:

My most sincere condolences to your family. Mr. Layne was a great teacher and later I found out he was also a great man. God fearing, and loving. I’m sure many wonderful memories flood your mind. In the short time I spent with him at AT memories were made I can only imagine how many you as a family have of him. Keep those memories close to your heart knowing you can be with him again. I remember the hayride to the state park and the water fights. I remember his laughter and his smile that day and many others during the AT years. I remember his visits at class reunions, it must have been because he truly cared. Hold to each other and most importantly hold to God’s unchanging hand. When I think of a teacher I think of the apostle Paul and his words to TImothy. “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing”. Could it possibly be that Mr. Layne has taught us this same lesson. May God bless you and keep you, and the peace that passes all understanding comfort you in the coming days.

Some people teach, some love, some care, and some leave a positive influence on many lives – Bruce Layne possessed all of these qualities that he shared with everyone he came in contact with. He always had a smile for all of us and like many others, his teaching in Social Studies and the “I Can Class” instilled many qualities in my life that I carry with me today. We all shared many special times with Mr. Layne at ATS and are very grateful to have known him. My sorrow to the family and I pray for God’s comforting spirit with all of you.
