Elsie Schneiter Crouch, known for her bright smile, died July 1, 2011 in Murray, KY. She was born on December 26, 1921 in Shanesville, Ohio to Frederick Karl Schneiter and Elise Lengacher Schneiter, both from Canton Bern, Switzerland. In 1939 Elsie graduated from Sugarcreek-Shanesville High School and in 1944 she graduated from Ohio State University in Nursing Education. Elsie married James Jessup Crouch, Jr. of Elkton, Kentucky in June 1944. In 1945 Elsie and Jim moved to Glasgow, Kentucky where he practiced veterinary medicine for fifty years. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before his untimely death in 2004.

In Glasgow, Elsie was a deacon of the First Christian Church and a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. The Glasgow Garden Club initiated the Lighted Dogwood Tour during her term as its president in 1981-1983. In 2009 she moved to Hickory Woods Senior Living Community in Murray, Kentucky. In Murray she attended the First Christian Church.

Elsie and Jim raised one daughter and four sons, all graduates of the University of Kentucky. She is survived by her five children, Mary Louise Sawyer (James), Albemarle, N.C., John C. Crouch (Kay), New Albany, IN, Dr. Richard H. Crouch (Cheryl), Murray, KY, Thomas F. Crouch (Dianne), Lexington, KY, and Joseph E. Crouch (Kathy), Lexington, KY; nine grandchildren; four great-grandsons; her two brothers, Fred Schneiter (Eileen), Waverly, Ohio and John Schneiter (Mary Lou), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews. Her three sisters, Helen Bahler (Keith), Lucy Schneiter and Mary Franklin (Bill), preceded her in death.

Visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM CDT prior to the memorial service at 11:00 AM CDT on Saturday, July 9th at First Christian Church, Glasgow, KY. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery at Elkton, KY. at 3:00 p.m.
