Dora Lewis Bennett
September 12, 1921 ~ April 19, 2011
Dora Lewis Bennett, 89, Glasgow, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at her residence. A native of Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Chris and Jessie Mae Everett Lewis. She was a retired seamstress at Handmacher Fashions and a member of Browder’s Chapel Baptist Church.
She is survived by numerous family members including one sister-in-law, Mary Helen Pedigo of Glasgow, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Bennett, and one brother, Ernest Lewis.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Browder’s Chapel Baptist Church or a favorite charity.

Words can not express the hours we spent together…….laughing,crying, and cooking ! My friend is what Dora Bennett became . I am gonna miss her , but I am so thankful we shared lots of lifes memories. Dodie – We shared a wonderful life together from our childhood days as best cousins to each other through our old age. Even though we were apart between Michigan, with my parents, husband and family, and Kentucky, my heart heart has always been with you and my old Kentucky home. The last several years has been difficult ones for you, but your spirit was always strong and it inspired me too keep on keepin’ on too. We have wonderful family surrounding us. I know I will see soon you in a special place where we can continue to share our love for each other. I wish I could be there to see you off. Annie
Dodie – You now have moved onto a new wonderful after life and we will miss you very much. But you have left us with wonderful memories of you and our visits to the farm, wonderful food and warm love you gave to all of us. I’ll miss my Sweet Cousin Dora. I’m so happy to have found her and feel blessed to have been able to spend time with her. It was love at first sight! She was sweet, funny and generous while still being a little devilish.. I’ll miss her smiling face and laughter My heart goes out to her nieces and family. I’m so sorry I can’t be there to say goodbye. Becky
My sympathy to Dora’s family and beloved friends. I came to know Dora and her mother, Jessie Mae, when my great aunt Margarett Matthews Alexander took me to visit them to learn more about our Matthews ancestors. Cousin Jessie Mae had the wonderful old Matthews family Bible and she knew many things about the family – and Dora just followed right in her footsteps. I hope Dora has placed those materials with someone who will preserve them and love them as much as they did. Every time I saw Dora for years we would discuss our mutual family. They were a delight and I’m grateful that I got to know them.
We were neighbors of Raymond and Dora ,for many years ,good friends and neighbors. i just recently learned of her passing.. so sorry , she will be missed i am sure.
I had so much fun teaching “Aunt” Dora how to use her computer. I was awe struck that she was so interested in finding out how to use her computer. We laughed so hard together as she learned. She demanded to pay me and I wouldn’t let her. Nothing do but she gave me a set of luggage when she found out I was taking a trip overseas. I still have that luggage which reminds me of her every time I use it. I will so miss you Dora Bennett, my dear friend, Bonnie’s Aunt.
