William J. “Billy Joe” Mills, 79, Hiseville, passed from this world into the sunshine on March 12, 2010. The thief of his life was dementia and lung cancer.

A son of the late Chester and Pauline Parker Mills, he was a life-long farmer in the Hiseville Community of Barren County and a member of the Rock Spring Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as an M P.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ozella Sexton Mills; a daughter, Brenda Powell and husband, Stephen, of Haywood; one son, Joie Mills and his wife, Delores, of Hiseville; three grandsons, Chris (Tracy) Hodge, Kelly Hodge and Jo-Jo (Sami) Mills; five great-grandchildren, Joshua Hodge, Gabrielle Moss, Lucy, J.D. and Will Mills; two sisters, Joyce (Wendell) Humphrey of Center, and Margie Pruitt of Glasgow; one brother, Chester Byron (Doris) Mills of Glasgow; a sister-in-law, Brenda Mills of Hiseville; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Donnie Wayne Mills; two brothers, Howard “Snooks” Mills and J.B. Mills; one sister, Wilma Thompson.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Darrell Reece, Bro. Russell Hatcher and brother-in-law, Bro. Riley Sexton. Burial will be in the Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

    To all of the Mills family, It was a true joy for me to care for Billy Jo over the last year. He touched my heart in many ways, even in his last few weeks. I will always think fondly of our time spent in the fount yard just waving as the cars went by or talking about his beloved pecan tree. A part of my heart goes with Billy Jo. I will miss you…..
