Venus Edward James, 97, Glasgow, died Tuesday at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. A son of the late Eli and Lillie Frankie James, he was a retired farmer.

Survivors include five sons, Billy Joe James and his wife, Flora Mae, of Glasgow; Wendell James of Indiana, Albert James of Louisville, Bobby James and his wife, Sue, of Indiana, Donnie James and his wife, Marsha, of Glasgow; four daughters, Kathleen Chambers of Indiana, Betty Miller and her husband, Kenneth, of Indianapolis, Mary Lougene Clark of Glasgow, and Nola Duckworth of California; 38 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Medley James; three daughters, Magaline Elmore, Doris Estes and Melinda James; three brothers, Burn, Jay and Willie James; three sisters, Lula, Rosie James and Jewell Whitlow; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be 1:00 PM Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:00 AM Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James Family.
