Bessie Beam Matthews, 86, Glasgow, died Wednesday at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. A native of Allen County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas L. and Rena Tabor Beam. A retired factory worker, she had been very active with the Senior Citizens Club and “The Girls’ Friday Rook Club”. The widow of the late B. F. Matthews, she was a member of the Glenview Christian Church.

Survivors include five children, Nancy Richardson and her husband, Sam, of Glasgow, John Matthews and his wife, Gail, of Alvaton, Billy Matthews and his wife, Carolyn, of Glasgow, Tommy Matthews and his wife, Linda, of Hiseville and Madonna Young and her husband, Mike, of Etoile; twelve grandchildren, Ellen Sullivan, Kevin Richardson, Jack Matthews, Ben Matthews, Will Matthews, Melissa Russell, Mark Matthews, Melanie Patterson, Bo Matthews, Todd Matthews, Tara Young and Patrick Young; one sister-in-law, Margarette M. Alexander of Glasgow; one brother-in-law, John T. Matthews of Cave City; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, William R. Beam.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Hiseville Cemetery. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Josh’s Friends or a charity of your choice.
