Old Charlie will be missed by all, his works will be seen for many years. If I can be of help to any of the family please call.
"The Mayor" was a kind and wonderful friend and will be missed by many...I especially will miss working with Charlie as we ready for the Highland Games...not only will I miss his help, but I will miss his humor, can't count the times he made the day by putting "his slant" on things...I will miss his friendship and his wisdom...our loss is Heavens's gain...
Charles was a good friend of mine. I enjoyed working with him on the BRADD board. Very sorry for your loss. Will keep you in our prayers.
Honeycutt was such an inspiration to so many of us. He endeared the love of music to so many, and we truly did love this man.
Oh what wonderful memories Honeycutt gave to all of us that were fortunate to have him as band director. Not only did he teach us music, he shared his love for country and history that is still with me today.
I enjoyed and valued Charlie's thoughts in re the Glasgow Highland Games. We will miss him greatly.
Deepest sympathies from my family. Mike Furlong (band member GHS '70).
The Honeycutt Family, Let God take you in His arms and cover you with His love. He knows the depth of your grief and only He can give you peace. We all have many great memories of a great pioneer. Cornell Stockton
You all have my deepest sympathy.Mr. Honeycutt was a really respected man.
We are sad to hear of the loss of a great man that will go down in Glasgow and Barren County history.
What a gift to the hundreds of young people he led and befriended and to the Glasgow community! Thank you to his family, and God, for sharing him with us! I can no longer play the saxaphone, but I'll always have fond memories of those days and "Mr. Honeycutt".

Thanks for all the fond memories in my school years and later. I'm so happy to have been a member of the Scottie Band under your direction in the fifties.
I was very fortunate to have known Charles Honeycutt both as my high school principal, and as Mayor. I cannot think of anyone I respect more. He was an extraordinary man.
Your services to the community will be missed as was when you first left office
The world has lost a wonderful man that I have known and admired all of my life but, Our Lord has gained a loyal and faithful servant.
As former residents of Glasgow for 14 years, we extend are sympathy to Wendel and Teresa whom we worshiped with when we lived there.
Mayor Honeycutt was a fine and generous man for the city of Glasgow. My father was a verteran of WWII and when he passed away Mayor Honeycutt honored his wish by playing taps at his funeral. This was a man although he did not know my father (Lester Turner) personally my mother (Bela) ask that he play and he took time out from his very busy life to grant this wish. Thank you to such a kind man. I know Glasgow will miss Mayor Honeycutt. Theresa (Turner) Deckard and Bela Turner
As new arrivals in Glasgow, many years ago, I took my daughter to Royal Music Company to buy an instrument so she could play with the Scottie Band. Mr Honeycutt was in the store. Saw that my daughter needed an instrument, and happily insisted that I come visit him, as he had plenty of instruments and would gladly provide my daughter with one. He was passing on kindness and the opportunity for my daughter to fall in love with music. I, Lorraine, was also one of the many nurses who cared for his mother at Homewood. He was a daily visitor and I was always so deeply moved at his devotion and love shown for his mother.
"We love you Honeycutt, we do, OH Honeycutt we love you." I remember standing on the blacktop at the end of practice on his last day with us and all the band singing him that song. He opened up a world of music to me, but most importantly gave me a peak of all the wonderful things beyond the borders of Glasgow, however, instilling in me a love of home, but not to forget my touchstone, Glasgow.
What can you say about a man that devoted his life to the youth of Glasgow and a town he made better for future generations? He preached emphatically to us in the band about ESPIRIT de CORPS and how important it is to a troop. He lived and stood up for what he believed in---GOD, COUNTRY, AND FAMILY. Rest in peace my friend. What memories we have from the old band days when you were in front of the troops.
Mayor Honeycutt will always be remembered and missed at Barren River State Park . He was always so pleasant and complimentary to all of us . The Highland Games will never be the same without him and Mrs. Honeycutt . He wore his Kilt with lots of pride and dignity . We would like to send our sympathy and prayers to the ones he left behind . Heaven will be a brighter place . Joyce Proffitt and Staff
wendel and wayne sure sorry to hear about your dad.just got back in town but we are thinking about all of you
This is a man that gave selflessly of his time to ensure our community had the very best to offer for all generations to come.As a band-parent of the 60-70's era it was good to know your child was not only was being taught how to play an instrument, but also instilled values in children never to be forgotten. He shall be greatly missed.Rest well you have earned your crown.
I'm so sorry for your double loss. Mayor Honeycutt did so much for Glasgow. Thank you for sharing him all these years.
Truly,a great American who gave so much, but asked for so little. He gave so much of himself for his country, community, and citizens. Many lessons of life were learned for those of us who were fortunate enough to be a part of the Glasgow High School Band(1964)
you will be miss you all are in my prayers you were a good man.
Just wanted to give my condolences to the family for your loss. He was a great Mayor and a great man. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.
My sincere sympathy goes to the family. When you think about him being gone, there are tears, but there is also a smile. Tears because he's gone; a smile remembering his love of life and his humor. This is a man people are proud to stand up and say they have had the honor of working for him or just knowing him. He believed in people when everyone else had given up on them. He will live on in this City forever.
Could all members of the GHS Class of 1975 please donate $10 in honor of Honeycutt for seats in the theatre. He was our beloved band leaded, vice prinical and friend.
I met Charlie for the first time during preparations for the first Glasgow Highland Games. He struck me as wonderfully soft spoken man of vision who quietly (so far as I could tell) got things done. His solving of the problems caused by the heavy rains that first weekend was nothing short of amazing. Standard stuff for Charlie, I suppose.
Charlie and his parents were neighbors of my wife, Margaraet, Alice and I on W. Washington St. over 50 years ago. At that time I knew Charlie would do some great things. Since Alilce was in the Scottie Band, Margaraet and I went as Band Parents to a few places including New Orleans. Charlie was really good in watching over and handling all of the Scottie Band. Charlie has also been one of our greatest Mayors and we appreciate his involvement with the Plaza. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Sincerely, LeRoy B
I signed in twice, it didn't let me comment before- It was an honor and Great Fun! Thanks for knowing... and all the wonderful memories.
When my family returned to Glasgow from Arizona in 1963 I found the band to be a great place to renew and form new friends. As one who has made his career in the field of music, I am grateful to the strong emphasis on discipline and the appreciation of many styles of music. Honeycutt expected our best. We wanted to keep the tradition of excellence. Glasgow and Barren County have lost a valued leader. Former students have lost a friend and mentor.
As a child I grew up in Glaggow and was well aware that Glasgow had one of the best bands and the WORLD CLASS BESTBAND DIRECTOR EVER...in my eyes...that was Charlie B> Honeycutt....Yes, he was strong, loud(about the right things) goal oriented and sensitive...One time when I could not perform IN THE MARCHING PORTION OF THE BAND{I wore a brace on my back and hated every second of it)Well , I was standing on the sideline near him while the others were marching...He looked at me and blurted out,"Do you want to go on this trip?"..Shocked by his command of voice and the attention drawn I replied something like,"I don't have the money."...He then in his bold way told me that I could go if I wanted to and that I didn't need the money..DID YOU KNOW THAT I FELT LIKE I DID NOT HAVE ON THAT BRACE AND I WAS 'TEN FEET TALL' AS THE EXPRESSION GOES...Then there was an occasion in my FRESHMAN year when he told me to march out with the Scottie band...OH WOW,I WAS SO HAPPY...I JUST WAS GLAD TO DO THAT...HOWEVEER, MY CLOTHING WAS A CORDUROY CREME YELLOW AND BROWN LIKE TENT DRESS..REALIZING I ONCE AGAIN STUCK OUT LIKE THE SORE THUMB...CHARLIE B. HONEYCUTT came to my rescue and blurted out...GET THAT GIRL A UNIFORM...MY GOD ,I was so thrilled and relieved....There were enough choices in those uniform sections to find one to fit over my brace...I really doubt that year if there was anyone as happy as I was , the girl with the Milwalkee brace, the girl that wore men's tshirts and jeans , the girl that was silly to cover up her embarrassment,sometimes...not always... me,Gatha Vance, freshman ,third chair trombone...This day I praise God for you,SIR, for what you represented, for your legacy which I believe we all are a part of ...AT EASE, BAND, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...TEN HUT...WE ARE READY ,CHARILIE , AND WE ARE IN LIFE MARCHING TO THAT DRUM WITH YOU IN THOUGHTS,GOALS, WITH CHRIST AND LOVE..........ps TO Wayne Honeycutt. I remember you too...I want you to know that your father was a great man..He may have not been a preacher ,but in my eyes he was...HE preached to many ,we just did not know or understand his depth until we got older...He is with Jesus in heaven.
Wendell, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. Roger & I could not get to the funeral home, however our prayers and thoughts are always with you. Your dad was a very wonderful man. Roger & Sue Gentry
I am so sorry to hear of the death of Honeycutt. He has a very special place in my heart. I was in band for 10 years, and I consider him to be one of the most influential persons in my life. He was like a father to me. From high school I went on to college studying music and art. Teachers very seldom know the impact they have on their students lives. I know that Honeycutt has influenced, inspired, & molded many into greatness like himself. May he always be remembered as such an outstanding leader who gave his all. He will be missed by so many people whose lives he has touched.
Of course Band and memories of Mr. Honeycutt over the years growing up at First Christian. Not very many teachers at GHS would go the places he did with us and wear a kilt and have the "stare" that told everyone in the crowd that they should not comment. He will be missed by all. Shawn
